Dave has been
both a secondary school teacher & parish priest prior to taking up his role as chaplain. His interests varied, but include outdoor pursuits, reading ..and is a huge film enthusiast. As far as his role here at Christ Church goes, he sees himself very much in terms of a parish priest in a university context, ministering to the needs of staff & students across the university.

 Sacristans

The term 'Sacristan can either mean:

  • (a) someone who has the care of the ‘Sacristy’(a space for keeping vestments such as the cassock and chasuble and other church furnishings, sacred vessels, and parish records.), or

  • (b) puff pastry dough that is formed into the shape of a twist, sprinkled with sugar, cinnamon etc, and then baked off.

(David's skills lie in the former of those 2 definitions!)

Their main duties revolve around serving the priest, maintaining the fabric of the building, and preparing the Chapel for worship. In reality this means they move a lot of chairs and prepare the altar and layout the priest’s robes.
