What are they?

  • The training sessions utilise the popular and world renowned Wattbikes to deliver individualised sessions. These are tailored to your ability with the intention of improving your fitness in an efficient and effective way.

Who are they for?

  • Everyone! As the sessions are personalised to each individual, it does not matter what your ability is - as long as you want to improve your fitness through cycling, these sessions can cater for you.

When are they?

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 18:30 and 19:45 throughout October to March.

Where are they?

  • The sessions are run in the new multi-million pound Verena Holmes building at the Canterbury Christ Church University, North Holmes Road Campus, CT1 1QU.

What do you get from taking part?

  • Improved fitness.
  • Motivational benefit from completing sessions with others that have similar goals.
  • High quality, coached sessions.
  • Meeting like minded people.

What is the difference between these sessions and other cycle/spin based sessions?

  • Unlike spin sessions, which aren't tailored to your fitness level, the Wattbike training sessions are individualised to your own ability.
  • This is achieved by using the Wattbike to record your power output, which is tracked from your first session. This gives you a personalised ‘power profile’.
  • This profile is analysed by Tim Ramsden from BlackCatCycleCoaching, who has many years of experience coaching athletes of all levels. He will generate your own set of training zones that are sent to you before your next session.
  • These zones will allow you to complete the programme at your optimal level.

Are there any restrictions?

  • No. You can even do multiple session each week if you are really motivated. However, we don't recommend doing two consecutive days, so your body has time to recover.

How long do the sessions last?

  • The sessions last 55-60 minutes. You can access the room where the sessions take place 15-30 minutes before the session starts, so you can set up the Wattbike to fit you.

What do I need to bring?

  • All Wattbikes are fitted with pedals which are sports trainer, SPD and Look Keo/SPD-SL compatible. You only need bring your own pedals if they are different to these.
  • General cycling clothing (lycra based) that you would typically wear for cycling.
  • A towel.
  • See the additional information sheet for more information.

Who delivers the sessions?

  • We have a team of experienced coaches who will help guide you through the sessions; answer any questions you have and help you set up the Wattbike.

How much do the sessions cost? How can they be purchased?

  • The sessions are sold in blocks (generally 11-13 weeks), which is an equivalent of £7.50 per session. Therefore, an 11-week block would cost £82.50. We sell the sessions in blocks to encourage consistency with your training. It also ensures that there will be a Wattbike available for you throughout the whole block.
  • The sessions can be purchased via our booking page.

Is there any other information that I need to be aware of?

  • Your power will be recorded on your first and last session. This can measure how well you have improved.
  • Please see our sample additional information sheet, which is sent to all clients.
