SportsLab offers Vo2max and blood lactate testing to help give you that competitive edge. 

SportsLab offers Vo2max and blood lactate testing delivered by qualified consultants in the £65 million Verena Holmes STEM building at CCCU, with a state-of-the-art gas analysis system and treadmill, bike or rowing ergometers.

The testing offers a critical insight to your endurance capabilities aiding you with both training and giving you a competitive edge. This service is aimed towards endurance athletes including runners, cyclists and triathletes, but is suitable for anyone who wants to know more about their current level of fitness. You can receive a full report including your training zones and your lactate thresholds, which is critical for endurance capabilities such as a marathon or ‘Ironman’ event.

Lactate profile and Vo2max (approx. 1.5 hours in lab) - £150

Results: Full Report of Lactate Threshold, Lactate Inflection Point, Training Zones, VO2max.

Gas exchange is measured throughout this test. Following a lactate profile assessment, and a period of rest you will complete a second test. During this second test which assesses Vo2max, exercise intensity increases every minute until volitional exhaustion at which point Vo2max is measured.

Lactate profile and thresholds (approx. 1 hour in labs) - £115

Results: Full report of Lactate Threshold, Lactate Inflection Point, Training Zones.

This test is a submaximal incremental test featuring 3-minute stages of exercise at progressively increasing intensity (either pace or power output). Blood lactate and heart rate are measured at the end of each stage to create a profile of your results. This test allows the accurate assessment of your metabolic ‘thresholds’. From this data we can define training zones (prescribed with heart rate, power or running speed) to guide your training.

Lactate profile and Vo2max - Data Only (approx. 1.5 hours in labs) - £80

Results: As above, but you will receive raw performance data for self-interpretation.

Vo2max Test (approx. 45 minutes in labs) - £80

Results: Full report of Vo2max, Max Heart Rate, Training Zones.

This test is an assessment of your aerobic capacity. Gas exchange is measured throughout the assessment to provide data on oxygen consumption. The exercise intensity will increase each minute until volitional exhaustion, at which point Vo2max is measured.
