Team Coordinator
IT Trainer for Faculty of Education
ECDL Test Centre Manager
Kay joined LTEU in January 1997 as an IT Training Officer with involvement in all aspects of training offered by the unit. During 1998/9 this included a large amount of work on the Millennium Bug problem, which culminated in a trip to Abu Dhabi (with other members of the team) to assist in training the Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority. She was involved with the introduction of ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) within the University, and later the Advanced ECDL, and continues with this as ECDL Test Centre Manager.
Kay worked for 13 years in the defence industry as a Software Engineer on all aspects of large software project work. This included flight testing the software and even flying an aircraft at 500 feet over the Irish Sea! Following this she moved into training with responsibilities for software training and then into lecturing Software Engineering and programming full time in a F&HE College for 5 years. After a stint of being self employed and dealing with the logistics of running a haulage firm (her husband's) she responded to an advertisement for a Training Officer in the local press and joined the University. She is a Member of the British Computer Society and a Chartered IT Professional.
Outside of work Kay enjoys walking her dog and continues to carry out all administration of her husband's business. She also enjoys swimming and reading if she can find a spare 5 minutes and is a member of a local SCUBA diving club, for which she is also Training Officer!
