Peer Observation and Review of Teaching

The University seeks to involve academic staff in the development of measures to use the peer observation and review process. Such involvement ultimately leads to improvements the quality of teaching and thus a more fulfilling student experience. Staff development sessions are offered so that staff can participate in peer observation and review procedures. Academic staff are consulted on aspects of peer observation measures such as administration and procedural aspects. In this way, peer observation measures are maintained as a dynamic force both for the monitoring of teaching and as a key staff development tool for developing personal capacity in teaching.

The Peer Observation Handbook |is now available. As indicated in the handbook each Faculty or in some cases a department may wish to select from a set of alternative observation forms, these may change from year to year depending on the focus for the observation. The observation forms are contained in separate document called Observation Toolkit. Once a form has been selected the template can be adjusted to meet the needs of staff for handwritten or word processed styles.

Please contact your Learning and Teaching Coordinator with any queries you may have regarding the handbook. Your comments will be most welcome. LTEU with the help of Faculties will be monitoring progress. Watch this space for reports and developments.
