Applying for the International Foundation Programme

Prepare for your undergraduate degree

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is an additional (level 0) year that extends a three-year undergraduate programme to a four-year programme.

It is for students needing extra academic and study skills preparation in order to successfully undertake undergraduate studies. For more information on the content of the programme, please visit our International Foundation course pages.

What subjects are available?

The IFP has six pathways:

  • Bioscience (UCAS code C190)
  • Business Studies (UCAS N102) *
  • Media and Cultural Studies (PL36)
  • Music (W302)
  • Sociology and Social Sciences (L301)
  • Contemporary Fine Art (W192)

What are the entry requirements?

You need to have successfully completed your secondary school education and be able to show evidence of this.

You also need to be able to show evidence of English language level IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.

* If you want to take the Business Studies (N102) pathway and have completed an English language medium secondary education with IELTS 6.0 or equivalent you may be able to start studying in January.

How do I apply?

If you are from an EU/EEA member country you should apply via UCAS. If you are from a country outside the EU/EEA you can either apply via UCAS or directly to the university.

To apply directly please complete our undergraduate application form, with 'course' as 'International Foundation' and 'Subject' with one of the pathways, eg 'Business Studies'. Put 'Level' as 'Year 0'.
