The Research Centre for Children, Families and Communities

This dynamic research centre draws together academics from a range of different disciplines in order to undertake high-quality research of national and international significance. Through their research they aim to to enhance the lives and life-chances of children and young people while helping to build strong families and communities.

Research undertaken in the Centre draws from, but moves beyond, related disciplines such as education, sociology, psychology and health studies. The Centre's research currently focuses on three inter-related themes: 'being' (having a 'good' life); 'belonging' (having a 'fair' life); and 'becoming' (building strong families and communities).

In addition, staff are collaborating on exploring innovative research methods which give a voice to social groups that are often 'silent' or 'silenced' within the community, such as young people, parents and the homeless.

The Centre is successfully building a wide range of partnerships and projects, some of which are detailed in the following pages.
