Canterbury Christ Church University has been unveiled as the latest sponsor of the 2012 Westfield Health British Transplant Games in Medway.
The university will be an official Bronze Partner of the Games.
The 2012 Westfield Health British Transplant Games will take place in Medway, Kent from 23 to 26 August 2012. Hundreds of transplant athletes will compete in a range of sporting events, from archery to running and darts to swimming, with the aim of raising awareness of organ donation.
Canterbury Christ Church University has had a Medway campus since 2004, where classes in health and social care education are offered.
Peter Milburn, Medway Campus Director and Academic Lead for Postgraduate Medical Education, said: “Canterbury Christ Church University is proud to be a sponsor of the Westfield Health British Transplant Games, an important occasion for both the Medway towns and the university.
“We are the largest provider of health and social care education, training and associated research in the southeast of England, and being part of the Games gives us an exciting opportunity to celebrate our history of working with the health sector in our Jubilee year, as well as supporting the campaign for organ donation.”
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the Games, John Spence, said: “Getting organisations like Canterbury Christ Church University involved is tremendously helpful for us to raise awareness of the Westfield Health British Transplant Games and ultimately the benefits of becoming an organ donor.
“This is the first year Medway has been our host, so having local sponsors like a major university will help establish us across Kent. We are very grateful for their support.”
This year’s Westfield Health British Transplant Games will closely follow the London Olympics and precede the Paralympics. The majority of the action will be staged at the £11.1 million Medway Park.
