University's first drama graduates selected for acting company
30 June 2009
The University Centre Folkestone's first drama graduates have been recruited by an acting company outperforming experienced actors in the auditions.

Corinne Heady.
Sadie Hurley, Behdad Zare, Corinne Heady, Stephanie Clarke and Alexandra Bashforth have all been taken on the books of Front Line Role-Play, an acting company that provides role-play work for the NHS and other large organisations.
The graduates, who all studied drama on the first Performing Arts degree at Canterbury Christ Church University’s Folkestone Campus, attended a training day and developed their role-playing skills.
Associate Tutor in Acting at the University Centre Folkestone, Gary Barber, said: “We are very pleased because these are the first ever higher education graduates to come out of Folkestone and their first jobs are in their local area. They were up against stiff competition from actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company and they impressed the client.”
Corinne Heady, 26, from Broadstairs, said: “I am delighted about being selected. I am very interested in how the role-play helps medical staff to handle complex and emotional situations. I believe that I will grow as a performer and the role-play helped me to channel my emotions into an effective portrayal of the character/person.”
Olivia Corrie, Director of Front Line Role-Play, said: “The group were very enthusiastic on the day, getting stuck in and giving everything a go. I was most impressed with how quickly they got what was being taught in the role-plays and how best to support that learning. I think they are going to make great role-players.”
For those interested in studying Performing Arts or would like to hear about the wide range of full and part-time degrees and short courses on offer at the University Centre Folkestone, situated on Mill Bay, there will be an Open Day on Saturday 11th July from 10am to 2pm.
