Benefits and facilities

We offer a wide range of benefits and facilities to support our staff.

Colleagues have access to our facilities including a Sports Centre, catering outlets and a well-stocked, on-site bookshop offering 10% off most titles. All members of staff can use the University library to access our extensive printed catalogue and substantial electronic resources.

There is plenty to choose from in terms of interesting seminars and musical performances throughout the year, and you can also undertake a further qualification whilst working for us.

We also have a Staff Association which employees join for a subscription and can enjoy a range of social events, free hot drinks (subject to a daily maximum) and discounted food from the University cafés and restaurants.

Here are some highlights of the benefits available to Christ Church employees:

Salary

We offer competitive salaries on a progressive pay structure with the potential for performance related pay via a Contribution Pay Scheme which recognises and rewards staff for exceptional performance within their current grade.

The Pension Scheme

The University is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

Free eye tests

Users of Display Screen Equipment may be entitled to an eyesight test paid for by the University.

Discounts

Our staff can make the most of a range of discounts with companies such as BUPA and local businesses such as health clubs and restaurants.

Child Care

We have a close association with a local day nursery and allocate 20 places (subject to availability) to students and staff from the University. The nursery also runs a playgroup, an afterschool club and a holiday play scheme.

Our staff are also able to purchase, via a salary sacrifice scheme, vouchers without paying income tax or national insurance contributions to a maximum of £243 per month to assist in paying for childcare for children up to the age of 16.

Relocation Scheme

A Relocation Scheme is available for those new to the University meeting certain criteria.

Travel

There are discounted tickets available through Stagecoach and Arriva Bus services, rail ticket loans, purchase of cycles through the Cycle to Work Salary Sacrifice Scheme and a shuttle bus service around the University sites in Canterbury. Subject to meeting certain criteria there is a relatively small fee deducted from salaries for access to University car parks.

Staff are encouraged to use the greenest form of transport available. Find out how we are doing this on our sustainability pages|.
