Success so far
Here are just some of the successful ways in which we’re putting our commitment to sustainability into practice.
Did you know?
We are in the top 25% of universities and colleges for environmental performance.
A First Class Award in the People and Planet Green League
Our University is in the top group of 145 UK universities and colleges in the People and Planet Green league table.
For the second year running we have achieved the award of First Class in the league table – ranked 33rd out of 145 universities and colleges. A clear reflection of the efforts of many students and staff and their commitment to sustainability.
Fairtrade for four years and counting
We’re proud to have maintained full Fairtrade Status since 2007. The award of Fairtrade status is in recognition of the University’s efforts to encourage staff and students to buy Fairtrade products, the profits from which contribute to tackling world poverty.
Carbon Trust Standard
We have successfully completed the Silver phase in the development of an Environmental Management System, after publishing a Carbon Management Plan.
We are now working towards the Gold phase, which involves establishing appropriate roles and responsibilities, training, communication, documentation and operational control, to ensure we are actively managing our economic impact.
Here is a taster of some of the ways that members of the Christ Church community are getting on board with sustainability:
Green Impact - an environmental accreditation scheme with a competitive streak. It empowers teams of staff and students to make changes in the workplace.
Student switch-off - we’re involved in this innovative scheme to save energy in halls of residence.
