A degree of change for paramedics
Back to Partnership in action|
In partnership with the South East Coast Ambulance Service, we’ve developed a Paramedic Science degree in response to changes in the profession.
Taught out of our Medway Campus, a leading centre for healthcare education in the Kent and Medway area, the degree was created as a result of the partnership. The modules enhance paramedics’ knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and medical trauma management.
Nick Sinclair, Senior Learning and Development Manager with the South East Coast Ambulance Service, said:
“Because of the significant changes in ambulance services nationally, we are now moving to highly qualified paramedics responding to calls in appropriate transport, which could be a motorbike, response car or ambulance. They would then treat the patient, assess their needs and refer them to the most relevant service.
“This new Paramedic Science degree will give them the grounding they need to achieve this and will be a requirement for everyone entering the profession in the future. It will also give us a far more professional status and greater recognition in the community.”
